When I want a set of icons for ODP or Nexus to match a particular desktop, I usually extract them from an IP. I’ve no idea if this is the best way to go about it, but here’s what I do:

1-- Open ID. Four options will appear. I select “open icon”

2-- Then I select file\open and navigate in windows explorer to the target IP and click on it.

3—The target IP’s ' icons will now appear in the LH pane of ID. Clicking on an individual icon then shows it in different bit sizes in a second pane in ID.

4-- I select a high bit size icon in the second column and click on it. That icon then appears in the main pane of ID.

5-- Then I click on "export", select PNG as the format and name the icon something, eg icon11.

6-- Select a windows explorer folder and save it (icon11) to that target folder.

7-- Repeat for all the icons I want from that package.

When I close ID, it will ask whether I want to save the project. I click on "no".

All the icons extracted this way from the IP will now appear in the pre-selected windows explorer folder as PNGs.

Thats it! Happy holidays everyone!

Hi folks

Darned if I can figure out how to change the avatar on my profile page. Dumb question, but tips are welcome.

Hi,

OK, 3rd request for help with Deskscapes: I upgraded to Deskscapes 3 because that’s what you do with upgrades, right? The previous version worked just fine on my XP PC once I quit using fences and active desktops.

I made no changes to video drivers/ security program/firewall or anything else before switching over to the upgrade.

When uninstalling the old version & installing the new version, I did the usual - paused PC protection and used CCleaner to clear out temporary files each time, rebooting as required.

But Deskscapes 3 is not working on my PC for some reason - no previews of installed Dreams (no biggie)  but Dreams just won’t apply any more.

Suggestions  to fix the problem would be greatly appreciated and If that don’t work,  can I revert to the previous Deskscapes version?

Hi,

This is a second request for help with Deskscapes, I may have posted the original in the wrong forum.

I recently upgraded to Deskscape 3 via Impulse from my paid-up subscription even though the prior deskscape version worked just fine once I figured out not to use fences or active desktops.

I use XP and made no changes in my security program/firewall on switchover, and when uninstalling the old version/installing the new version, I even paused PC protection just to make sure there'd be no glitches.

I also used CCleaner to clear out temporary files each time and rebooted as required.

But Deskscapes 3 is not working on my PC for some reason - no previews of installed Dreams and and needless to say it also won't apply them.

Any suggestion on how to fix the problem would be greatly appreciated and If all else fails, can I revert to the previous Deskscapes version?

Thanks in advance.

PS: The OS I'm running is XP.

Objectdock configuration icon

Aug 7, 2009 4:37 AM by Discussion: Docks

Maybe I'm missing something, but the "configure Objectdock" icon seems redundant since  objectdock configuration options can be accessed by right-clicking anywhere on a dock, giving  "this dock", "remove entry" and "dock entry properties" with its full sub-menu.

I try to keep my docks as compact as possible by grouping related applications on fly-out menus and by also dropping the "configure objectdock" icon.

i'm not that short on ram, but it seems sensible to reduce dock resource use as every added icon likely increases ram consumption.

Fly-out menus don't necessarily conserve ram, but surely dropping icons does?

So...is the "configure objectdock" icon unnecessary?

Hi,

I can still login, download and post, no problem, but for the last few days I can't rate skins. I'm getting  "sorry, but only apprentices and WC subscribers can rate a skin" offering a "subscribe now" link. I subscribed last November.

No idea if the site being down for maintenace last Wednesday(?) has anything to do with it...anyone else getting this glitch?

WB6 won't upload skins from disc from default location or user-created location

Jul 3, 2009 5:25 PM by Discussion: WindowBlinds

Hi,

This problem started when I first updated to WB6: It won’t upload skins  from either

All Users\Shared Folders\Stardock\Windowblinds

or the user-created folder

Program Files\Stardock\Object Desktop\Windowblinds\Windowblinds Skins

The only way I can get skins to show up in WB6 Config. is by first applying them (double-clicking on the .bload).

Also when I change skins, the previously installed skin disappears from visual styles in WB6 Config.

Impulse keeps saying  "WB6 is not installed correctly, please check for an update" which I did, installed & rebooted but nothing changes and Impulse keeps repeating the same incorrect installation message.   Also tried uninstalling/reinstalling WB6 but the problem's still there.

I didn’t have this issue with the earlier version of WB(5?). If all else fails, is there a way to reinstall the earlier version?

Any suggestion/help would be most welcome.

Thanks!

I guess it’s a question of taste, kinda like preferring soft jazz to death metal music & personally, I’m more into dreams than nightmares.

Is there a way to slow down the more hyperactive dreams to calmer, more meditative paces? I download loads of dreams, but end up using e.g. soothing ones like ‘parasite’, ‘red vines’. ‘silence’, & other non-frantic ones.

I usually end up deleting the ‘hey look at my wizzy wow break-dancing in yer face speed’ types. Even though they use attractive themes, they are way too distracting for what I’d like for a desktop. It sure would be nice if more ‘dreamy’ dreams were available.

Just a thought.

My PC came with Vista though I switched to XP and Dreamscapes run OK on it.

But nothing happens when I try applying ‘set as desktop background’ for ordinary wallpaper. It won’t replace the animated theme, which keeps running.

I can’t find any process in Windows task manager that looks like an MPEG-2 video decoder, and I’m not sure if killing it would be the right thing to do.

I haven’t tried switching from whatever WB theme I’m using back to Windows Classic or XP theme, then reapplying the WB theme and still wallpaper, so I don’t know if that’ll do the job.

But if it does, it sure seems a long workaround for what is probably a straightforward way of applying still over animated paper.

Is there a direct way of switching between still and animated I’m missing?

Appreciate your help, thanks.
